Sam Hunter is an award-winning fiber artist and quilt pattern designer who started sewing when she was 7 (trying to make Barbie clothes!) and hasn’t really stopped since. She holds a BA in Sculpture and an MFA in Fiber Art, and blends this classic training with her great sense of play in creating art. She loves talking about art, art history, and creativity with people, and loves to share the joy of making beautiful things.
“The thing that inspires me most as a guide and teacher is that I get to help you unwrap and enjoy the gifts of your own creativity. I love de-mystifying the formality of art, and making it accessible to anyone who wants to come play.”
Sam started her travel and tour guide business, The Embroidered Journey, in 2020 and finally got it launched in 2022 (thank you, pandemic) with two sold-out tours to Paris, France. In 2023, she added sold-out London to her offerings, and the south-west region of France in 2024. She plans to add more European cities to the roster, seeking out new textile adventures to share.
Be sure you sign up for the Embroidered Journey Newsletter to get first dibs on all the new adventures!

Sam is an ex-pat Brit living in the USA who goes home regularly to get decent fish ‘n’ chips. Twenty-odd years ago, she made her first trip to Paris and thus began her love affair with the city. She travels there as often as possible because the French really know how to bake with butter. When not in Europe, she lives in foodie-friendly Portland, Oregon.

In addition to being a huge fan of playing with Lego,ย Sam is also the Chief Everything Officer of a bunch of other stuff:
Hunter’s Design Studio, where you can find her designing and selling quilt patterns.
RevCraftBiz, where she runs a podcast and writes about revolutionary ways to run a craft business.
She is full of sass and opinions (and has been for most of her life) as evidenced by pictures spanning the years ๐
