Products to make your travels easier!

People write me all the time, asking for my favorite recommendations for travel products, so I decided to collect them together on this list of Sam’s Favorite Travel Products.* I have personally purchased and used every item 🙂 The list includes items for packing, security, and power adapters! Money:

I use Wise.com for all my foreign currency needs. They have great rates, tiny transaction fees, and the ability to move money between different currencies as you travel, along with an ATM card. This link gives you free fees on your first transaction.

For travel points to use on my trips, I use the Chase Sapphire card. The initial points bonus is great, and I can easily earn enough points for an economy flight to Europe every year. Also, their points work on most airlines (and go further than cash in their travel portal), or transfer to other points programs.

I’m also a huge fan of the Apple Card (if you use an iPhone) – never a foreign transaction fee, cash back, and the ability to change the number on the card immediately if you think it has been compromised.

I always make sure I travel with 2 credit cards in case one gets compromised!

Flights:

Researching the best deals on flights can almost be a full time job. I subscribe to Going.com to get notifications of deals, fare wars, mistake fares, and other good travel tips. I’ve caught a few good deals because of their notifications. Rome2Rio.com will show you every option for traveling between any two places in the world.

Travel Insurance:

These are some of the most recommended travel insurance sites:
In my opinion, the most important coverage to have when traveling is MEDICAL coverage, so look into your own medical insurance and travel insurance for the following:
  • Medical coverage, payment of medical bills and co-pays abroad
  • Medical transportation home (for instance, you shattered an ankle and need medically supervised travel back home for surgery)
  • Repatriation of remains – I know, a depressing thought, but one to consider for your family: a plan that will send you back to your loved ones should you die abroad
All three of these scenarios can easily cost far more than your entire trip! We tend to insure our trips, but not ourselves!!

Mobility

The National Council on Aging has published this Mobility-Friendly Travel Guide for anyone who has concerns about their mobility while they travel.
